From the Superintendent

Dear United I.S.D. Parents and Members of the Community:

Thank you for visiting the United Independent School District website.  Our site offers a wealth of information about our District.  I encourage you to tour this site and learn more about the various educational programs available for student success.

Incorporated in 1961, United I.S.D. is considered to be one of the most progressive school districts in South Texas.  Serving about 42,000 students, United I.S.D. encompasses 2,844 square miles of Webb County.  In addition to our 41 campuses, United I.S.D. offers three magnet programs and a career academy program.

Our Board of Trustees and employees are committed to providing students with a first rate education.  I am proud that United I.S.D. became a Texas Education Agency Recognized School District for the 2009-2010 school year.  United I.S.D.s success is attributed to the leadership and hard work of all of us working together in the best interest of our students.

Indeed, I am fortunate to work for and live in a community that values education.  I am confident that our District will continue to make significant strides in the area of parental involvement and will continue to establish even more partnerships that will ultimately benefit our students and District.  As Superintendent, please know that we will remain strong and committed to student academic excellence.

On another note, school districts across the State are preparing for drastic reductions in their budget due to shortages in state revenue.  Our Board of Trustees, District administrators, and I have met with our current state and federal legislative leaders who include: Webb County State Representative Richard Peña Raymond, State Representative Ryan Guillen, State Senator Judith Zaffirini, and U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, to address our needs and fiscal concerns.  I have asked that all employees be cognizant and make sound decisions when expending District funds.  Our local legislative delegation has told us they will continue to make the well-being of our students and employees their focus as they work with their colleagues in Austin and D.C.

In closing, I thank you for your interest in United I.S.D.  We welcome your input and support.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact my office at (956) 473-6219.
Sincerely,

Roberto J. Santos
Superintendent
