UISD Superintendent David H. Gonzalez will continue to serve on the important South Texas Association of Schools Board of Directors, after being re-elected and notified by the South Texas Association of Schools (STAS).
Every odd year, the Association or STAS elects a Board of Directors for the following two years to coincide with the year before and during the next legislative session. Superintendent Gonzalez was first elected in August of 2021 and will continue to have important input regarding education-related bills before the Legislature.
The new Board of Directors were selected for the next two years 2023-2024 & 2024-2025. Gonzalez will provide guidance and direction on important education issues together with a team of other superintendents throughout South Texas such as Zapata, Roma, and Brownsville ISD’s.
Superintendent Gonzalez says he is honored that the Association continues to support his appointment to the Board where he will continue to advocate for all children in Texas.
“I am honored to continue my work with the South Texas Association of Schools Board of Directors,” says Gonzalez. “I believe that this is a critical time for school districts to work together for the good of the students and their families. I accept this designation to represent UISD and Webb County, and I humbly look forward to our many productive meetings and important contributions to advance educational excellence and school safety.”
Superintendent Gonzalez was born and raised in Laredo,Texas. After graduating from high school, he attended Laredo Junior College, today known as Laredo College, and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 with a Master of Science in Educational Administration and a Superintendent’s Certification.

Gonzalez was then selected as the district’s Executive Director for Middle School Instruction in 2014. A year later he was named the Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction where he served for seven years.
During his time in the instructional department, UISD obtained an “A” rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for two consecutive years. He attributes the excellent academic performance results to the collaboration between district officials, administration, teachers, students and parents in ensuring student success.
In 2021, Gonzalez was named Superintendent of Schools by the UISD Board of Trustees. That same year the district earned its 3rd consecutive “A” rating from the TEA. Throughout his career, Gonzalez has worked tirelessly to help students obtain top level instruction.
