UISD Holds Back-to-School Convocation at Sames Arena

United Independent School District kicked-off the 2023-24 school year with a big extravaganza of entertainment, motivation, and fun! The UISD Back-to-School Convocation was held at Sames Arena with the theme of “UISD: Decades of Success,” celebrating the District’s many achievements through the years.

The event featured Sammy the House as Master of Ceremonies to an audience of teachers, administrators, and support staff, who were already excited about embarking on a new school year. Live music from popular local band Little Sister filled the Arena as District employees danced and sang along to some of their favorite tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, while videos played on the jumbotron of yearbook photos from the many years UISD has served the educational needs of the community starting in 1961. A “Price is Right'' style game show was held in which random employees had a chance to win prizes. Social media personality Gerry Brooks served as keynote speaker. Brooks is an educator himself, and makes comedic videos about the daily challenges encountered by teachers and administrators on a daily basis

It was a celebration of past accomplishments and those to come as UISD moves forward to a bright future.
