The end of summer is upon us and it’s almost time to go back to school! Some students are excited, others sad that summer’s over, and it’s common to feel a little nervous about the first day in a new grade or maybe even a different school altogether.
Everyone at United ISD wants all our students to feel right at home on their first day of class, so here are some tips to get you ready for the 2023-24 school year!
Health for Body and Mind
Good nutrition and exercise is crucial to good health. Make sure you eat a good, nutritious breakfast to fuel yourself for the day. A healthy mind is as important as a healthy body, so feed your mind with positive thoughts. United ISD provides breakfast and lunch free of charge for all students. Menus can be found here.
Be Prepared
Make sure you have all your school supplies, school uniforms, and immunizations ready for the first day of school. All the information parents need to make sure their children are ready can be found here.
Manage Your Time
United ISD is a large district with over 40,000 students and 54 campuses. Traffic on the first day of school can present something of a challenge. Elementary school times are from 730 AM to 3:00 PM, middle school is from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM (6th grade campuses are 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM), and high schools are from 8:35 AM to 4:15 PM (9th grade campuses are from 8:20 AM to 4:00 PM). Make sure you get an early start to get your children to school on time and go about the rest of your day.
Cherish the Moments
Time flies. Your children are growing and these times only come but once for each of them. Record those memories by taking pictures of your children as they embark on their first day of the school year whether they are Pre-K or Seniors. If you post on social media, don’t provide names, grades, or schools to ensure their safety. Remember to use our hashtag: #WeAreUnited!
Relax
The rush of starting a new school year can make a busy morning all the more hectic, and some children miss their families when they begin school. Don’t forget to take a deep breath and relax, and let your children know that everything is going to be fantastic! Before long, they will come to look forward to the learning adventures every day brings.
Spending time with your children on weekends and evenings after school and work are important to reconnect and get updated on what’s happening in their studies. Make the most of those times, and make sure you go out and have fun! A movie night, a walk in the park, or a Sunday drive can go a long way to bring your family closer together. Don’t forget your United ISD family is here to support you and your children throughout their education.
