LBJHS Oil & Gas Program Students Qualify for Paid Internships from Lewis Energy Group!

Recently, the San Antonio based Lewis Energy Group reached out to graduates from the Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS), Oil and Gas program. After considering a number of students, the company offered paid high school internships to Juan Pablo Duran, Dominik Ledesma, and Leonardo Loredo. All three candidates have their diplomas and their invaluable OSHA certifications.  Lewis Energy H.R. Business Partner Kaitlynn Stevens confirmed the offers earlier this month, and added that each individual received an official letter and consent form for standard background and drug screenings. "Once the results were verified we reached out with further details and welcomed them to Lewis Energy. Our managers were very impressed with how prepared the students were this year, and for the fact that all of the students were already OSHA 5810 certified—no doubt a result of  the campus' involvement in the Oil and Gas Program", said Stevens. LBJHS Oil and Gas instructor Gildardo Benavides said that he is proud of all of his students and congratulates Juan, Dominik and Leonardo. "Our CTE courses are focused on training and fully preparing students for the workforce.  Leonardo Loredo stated that his instructor prepared him well for the opportunities ahead."Mr Benavides always had high expectations of us in the classroom and also told us to exceed those expectations when we're out in the workforce", said Loredo.

Students who enroll in CTE courses like  Oil and Gas are always advised to take the extra step of earning industry recognized OSHA certifications  because it demonstrates a mastery of knowledge and skills that is valuable to prospective employers like Lewis Energy", said Benavides. UISD's Oil and Gas Program was established in 2013 with the objective of informing students about the industry by providing them with knowledge and skills to decide whether to continue in a related college degree or joining the workforce. The curriculum encompasses multiple courses (pathways), that were developed by the UISD career and Technology Department (CTE), in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency.
