Ribbon Cutting For Roberto J. Santos Elementary School

United ISD held a formal dedication and ribbon-cutting for Roberto J. Santos Elementary School on October 15, 2021.  Mr. Santos was accompanied by members of his family, friends, and colleagues. The event was held in the school's gymnasium with tables surrounded by guests from all over the city.

“Growing up in the 50s, the feeling of getting together with friends and family meant that lifelong friends were created,” said Former Superintendent Roberto J. Santos.

Mr. Santos launched his career with UISD in 1983, serving as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Director for Human Resources, Assistant Superintendent for Support Services, and Associate Superintendent for Student Support Services.  In 2005, Mr. Santos accepted the call to become United ISD’s Superintendent of Schools. Over the course of the next 16 years his wealth of experience, leadership abilities, and unwavering dedication to students and our community-led to unprecedented growth and tremendous success for the district.

Mr. Santos has been our biggest supporter all these years, and he has transformed the lives of thousands of students for the better. Under his leadership, Santos was able to build a team of administrators, earn a TEA "A" rating, assist in the creation of two early college programs, and get UISD voters to approve the 2013 district bond. As a result, new schools, an aquatic center, and the SAC stadium were built.

Speakers included United ISD Board President Javier Montemayor, Superintendent David H. Gonzalez, and Campus Principal Mucia Flores. Mr. Santos recalled memories from his time at United ISD, as well as from his early days as a teacher and coach at Lamar Junior High. Among the guests were members of his former basketball team, which he coached and led to an undefeated season.

Roberto J. Santos Elementary School is the district's 30th Elementary school and is located at 4201 Champions Way, Laredo, TX 78045. Their school mascot is a Ram and their Colors and Navy and Gold.
