Local Education Agencies (LEAs) serving students in residential facilities (RFs) located within the LEA's geographic boundaries and/or jurisdictions are subject to providing instruction to students. The definition of an RF, for the district’s purpose is a facility operated by a state agency or political subdivision, including a child placement agency, that provides 24-hour custody or care of a person 22 years of age or younger, if the person resides in the facility for detention, treatment, foster care, or any noneducational purpose. An RF does not include traditional foster homes licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) as Foster Family Homes (Independent).  Furthermore, United ISD provides Free Appropriate Public Education to all of our residential students. The residential program of instruction consists of classroom instruction in basic core subjects of Reading, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Science, and an online curriculum program for credit recovery or course advancement for graduation.

United ISD currently provides educational services to the following residential facilities:

  1. Casa Esperanza Recovery Home
  2. Youth Recovery Home
  3. Youth Village Detention Center

As pioneer students who are still finding their way for a better life, United ISD is committed to serving these at-risk students to become responsible world citizens by pursuing excellence through life-long learning.
